Improvisation Series: Truth in Comedy

INTRODUCTION TO IMPROVISATION
Mondays 6–9 2009

3 week option: September 21, 28 • October 5

6 week option: September 21, 28 • October 5, 12, 19, 26

Intensive option: Friday Oct. 2, 5 - 9

This class teaches the basics of improvisation. You will discover your strengths through a focus on character creation, “the group mind” and object/environment work. Improvisation stresses intuitive thinking, listening skills, continuity, characterization, and—most importantly—teamwork. On October 26, you have the option to perform for the public.

INTERMEDIATE IMPROVISATION
Mondays 6–9    2010

3 week option: January 11, 18, 25

6 week option: January 11, 18, 25, Feb. 1, 8, & 15

Intensive option: Friday Jan. 29, 5 - 9


This class concentrates on the give and take and listening skills necessary to create an awesome two-person scene—the anchor of all improv. This is where you use all the skills you have acquired thus far in order to create full relationships on stage and you will be introduced to long form improvisation. On January 15 class, you have the option to perform for the public.

ADVANCED IMPROVISATION
Mondays 6–9

3 week option: April 12, 19, 26

6 week option: April 12, 19, 26, May 3, 10, 17

Intensive option: Friday April 30, 5 - 9

This class focuses on long form improvisation. Here you will probe even deeper into what you’ve learned, focusing intensely on the acting, editing, and group commitment that it takes to generate a 30-minute improvised piece. You will have the opportunity to perform for the public several times during this course.
